Again…

There she goes again with that dumb hat.

She did her hair first and then she put on that dumb hat…again.

Does she want me to pay for her hair?  She can’t think it’s sexy. It covers her eyes.  I love her eyes. It hides her long thick hair.  I love her hair.  I imagine having her hair sewn into a blanket I can wrap myself in. She puts a hoodie over that beautiful frame. She throws sweats on and she falls into “comfort” but I can’t find her in the layers of fabric.  There are already so many layers to her.  When I peel back one, I notice the next, and each time I peel I find something new to fall in love with or temporarily hate.  She’s an anomaly. She’s a walking talking anomaly.  She is proof of God’s sense of humor.  She was made out of perplexities and unrealistic expectations and …humility.  She’s a body of water moving freely through her own veins.  Water instead of blood.  She gives life to herself and still praises something greater than herself.

I can’t see her eyes.  How will I know if she is listening to me?  How will I know she can hear my heart beating?  How will she see the footnotes at the heel of my thoughts with giant asterisks that only she is disciplined enough to notice and read?

How will I know if there are tears I need to wipe away?

I hate that stupid ass hat.

(Woman enters the room.  Just got dressed.  Freshly showered and in her “favorite hat”)

Woman: Hey babe.  How do I look?

Man:  You look beautiful.  I like your hat.

Give Your Wallet a Break Today!

Day 11 of the self esteem challenge :

Use today as a savings opportunity for the future you.

I work in a corporate office so I spend a lot on food daily. A sandwich from the cafeteria after chips and a bottled water can easily amount to $8-9. Add in another $6-7 for coffee and a bagel on the way to work. By the time my second break comes, I’m looking for some “happy food” to put some excitement in my day. That can be anything from apple slices with caramel  ($3.49) to a slice of pizza (don’t judge my diet.)

Today I’m gonna keep it really simple!

image

I’m having cereal for my first break and my lunch.

I caught an awesome sale. If you’ve been a follower of shutyamouthandcallmeugly.com for awhile then you know I love loyalty cards!!! I saved $2.80 at CVS today and my year to date savings is $85.91. Think of what you can do with that money. Especially with the holidays coming up! Or maybe it’s just a new hairstyle for you to start the new year off with.

If you’re drinking the recommended 60 ounces of water a day, you should feel content throughout the day. I’m not saying you’re going to feel like you ate a steak! :-p
However, you shouldn’t want to go all zombie on your co-worker and chew an arm off.

The money you would spend, you can keep in your pocket. Make a list of things you can use the money for. Look at that list when you’re tempted to break the challenge during your day.

My list:
1. Eyebrow threading- $4.00 (Sundays only…..I know I know I’m cheap!)
2. Underarm waxing-$8.00
3. Manicure and pedicure -$15.00 (Wednesdays only)
4. Gasoline -$10.00 is a half tank (4 cl vehicle.)
5. Music- Cd $10-$15 (yes I still buy cd’s) Average download  $9.99

I can keep going but you get the idea!!

Let me know how you do with this challenge today. I don’t start my work day till 3pm today but I posted earlier than normal for you guys. If you’ve already started, sacrifice McDonald’s on the way home or that Cinnabon you don’t need. Cook dinner for everyone else, you eat cereal and pack your portion for lunch tomorrow! Join me or shut your mouth and call me ugly in the comments section below. This may seem small but the point is it’s for you!!!!

P.S- If you live in the New York area and you want to know where I get some of those deals, ask in the comments section or tweet me @ShutyaMouthNow!  I reply immediately

Vision Boards and What I Think of Them

image

I have read “The Secret “and I’ve seen the documentary.* I have also read “The Power” by the same author. I’ve read multiple Napoleon Hill titles. I have also seen the motivational video featuring Oprah Winfrey where she discusses how she landed the role in “The Color Purple.”  All of these works center around one thing…

Law of Attraction.

I have often been torn by this concept. I was unsure of how I could implement it into a Christian lifestyle. Can these two beliefs exist at the same time? After many years, my answer is, yes.

The law of attraction is just what it states. It’s a law. Just like the law of gravity it can definitely co-exist with Christian beliefs. Yes, I believe in God and I believe he is the one who has drawn the blueprint for my life. I also believe that doubt, insecurities, distraction , destruction, and distortion can lead you away from the path God has created for you. Your lack of focus and your inability to believe in yourself can cause you to miss out on His gifts.

What is the law of attraction? My condensed oversimplified answer is:
What you believe and envision can and will manifest.

We know this!

Look:

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind…~Romans 12:2

In order to carry a positive action we must develop here a positive vision.
~Dalai Lama

So what is a vision board? My condensed oversimplified answer is:
Its a map that leads to your own self discovery. It’s centered on you and your desires. It encapsulates your wants and your needs. By taking everything  out of your brain and heart and gluing them to a poster board you are forcing yourself  to focus. You’re at least glancing at this thing twice a day (morning and night.) For me, the images return to me throughout the day. So let’s say one photo on the board is “new car.” I find myself being more conscious of how I maintain the car I have. I downloaded a budget app on my phone to improve my credit. I pack lunch more often to put that money towards savings. That photo is a reminder that there is a goal in place. It also makes that goal feel more like an official agreement with myself. Also, seeing it makes it seem more attainable.

Vision boards are also a lot of fun!! It was fun finding the photos. It was nice to take an hour out to be creative in a different way. I have secretly always wished I could draw. I still can’t draw but I was able to produce something visually stimulating (well at least it stimulated me.)

Try it! Let me know how it works out. Do you already have one? Do you think it can help your quality of life?  Do you think they’re silly?

I’m excited about my future. If you asked me last year if my life would be this abundantly blessed this year, I would have laughed. God has smiled on me and I owe it to Him to run a more disciplined race. See you at the winner’s circle.

When Did You Stop Playing? [Interview with Gem Face NY designer Michelle Carver]

image

When was the last time you took some time to play? If you think about your childhood do you have fond memories of birthday parties? Perhaps you have photos your elders saved for you.

I remember seeing photos from my 1st birthday kiddie party at my parents home.  There was ice cream smeared into my mothers rugs, funny hats and a scary awkward looking clown.

Thank goodness there are some entertainment options that are affordable and fun! If you’re looking for something intricate that your kids will love, try Gem Face NY. We had the pleasure of speaking with the new, engaging and exciting entrepreneur.

SYMACMU: What is your differentiator from the competition?

MC: My face paints are all FDA approved and washable with soap and water.  I also recently added “NEW” Glitter Tattoo Art.  Glitter tattoo is a pretty shimmery tattoo that can last 3-10 days.  They are perfect for party & excellent in summer since they stay on even in water.  I started balloon twisting which is a great addition to any childs party.
